Great day to be a Rocket on the Cross Country team. These two guys ran amazing races! Read on for a description of the stunning performances.
Sophomore, Jaxon Allen again ran a very mature, composed, and gutsy race. He started out and was buried in the pack of studs that were elbowing for position or to keep position in the enormous pack of runners. Mile 1 Jaxon was 89th in 5:15 - 2 mile he was 75th in 5:24 - 3 mile he was 60th with a split of 5:21 - Jaxon Allen then blew past 2 others in the last .1 to finish in 58th place in the field of 255 of the best runners in the state. Very impressive race, especially for a Sophomore! Can’t wait to see him and his teammates run in the State Finals over the next few years.
Senior, Klay Grant ran a spectacular race! Klay came through the 1/2 mile mark in 2:25 and looking like he was in complete control, like he was cruising in a convertible on a sunny day. Klay came through the 1 mile in 5:03.3 (notice the tenths) which is right where he wanted to be. This pace landed him in 12th and a pack of runners all around him. He then put his foot on the gas more during the hilly section and ran the second mile in 5:03.4 (notice the tenths). Klay continued working with the pack all around him. He looked fatigued at this point but strong. 3rd mile was 5:10 and he fell back to 13th place. He rallied his strength and speed to finish the last .1 (160 meters) in 22 seconds and hammered past several guys to finish 8th in the Division 1 State Finals! Phenomenal race! Crazy proud of his efforts

As promised, congratulations Jaxon on a great season. Klay Grant congratulations on becoming all state athlete. We are so proud of you both.

Pictures of the two studs to follow! Congratulations to Klay and Jaxon on two incredible seasons and races. Jaxon finished 58th state with a 16:26.46. Sr Klay Grant earned all state honors finishing 8th place with a 5k time of 15:38.30. Amazing times, races, seasons & young men.

Congratulations to Klay Grant, Klay is the last Rocket Dawg of the Week winner for the 2021 fall athletics season.
Coach Darin Grant had the following to say about Klay:
"Klay Grant is a Rocket Dawg for many reasons of which I will name a few.
1) Discipline and Drive - Klay reminds me of what I read in a book about Prefontaine, US Olympic Running Prodig, Klay is often seen running all around town. In the past 2 years Klay has taken a week to a week and half off between seasons and then gets right back at it running in extreme winter weather conditions, cold raining fall and spring conditions, or hot humid summer conditions. He knows consistent disciplined running is key for long-term growth.
2) Leadership - Klay focused on leading and leaving the RP Cross Country program at a higher level. That meant mentoring the underclassmen to be future leaders while on runs and imparting his experiences and knowledge to teammates. Based on the performances and skillfully executed races of his teammates he has developed teammates well during each long run and all out efforts during practices as well as after the race reflections talked through during cool downs.
3) Classroom Academics - Klay is a determined student in the classroom and outside of the classroom. He currently has a 4.3 GPA and is in the top 10 of his Senior class. Klay reads like he runs his miles. Constantly learning taking care of classwork or reading about his personal interests of track, cross country, spiritual disciplines, or life of the church.
4) Coachable - Reflection is key to becoming better at sports, in a career, and life in general. Klay is masterful in being open-minded and considering what other people suggest.
5) Accolades - XC City Meet Champion as a Soph, Junior, and Senior. XC Conference Champion as a Senior. XC State Finals Qualifier as Sophmore, Junior, and Senior. Academic All-State in XC several times.
As his coach, I am super proud of this kid. Klay is a remarkable representative of Reeths-Puffer Cross Country and Rocket City!"

Congratulations to sophomore Paige Anderson! Paige was selected the the golf coaches association Division 2 honorable mention all-state team. Pretty incredible accomplishment for a promising Sophomore. We are proud of you Paige.

Hello Rockets!
Reminder, Wednesday 11/3 at 6:00 PM, the athletic department will be hosting a Winter Kickoff event in the Arena, at the high school, for all winter high school athletes. At this meeting you can expect to hear a unified plan for communication from the coaching staff, a plan for parental and community support of individuals and teams, and needs prior to the season (final forms, fees, physicals). This meeting will be with all winter athletes, their parents/guardians, Mr. Sandee (athletic director) and Mrs. Hill (secretary to the athletic director). Please anticipate roughly a half hour for this meeting. From there, individual sport programs will branch off for their sport specific meetings. This will give athletes and parents an opportunity to review practice schedules, learn tryout procedures, discuss team rules and expectations for both athletes and support groups, along with other needs or communications regarding specific teams. The sport specific meetings will vary on times based on needs of the group, locations are listed below:
Arena - Boys Basketball
Mr. Niklasch’s room (264) - Girls Basketball
LMC commons area - Cheerleading
Mr. Fleming’s room (113) - Wrestling
Cafeteria - Bowling
Hockey team has already had their preseason meeting
Swimming specific sport meeting will be communicated by Coach Taylor

Take a look at our 2 state qualifiers in cross country! Congratulations Klay and Jaxon!!!
