Help us give a hand to the Reeths-Puffer students and alumni that are participating in the Penguin Project this weekend. The Muskegon Civic Theatre's Penguin Project production of Beauty and the Beast opens this weekend! The Penguin Project was founded in 2004 by Dr. Andy as a way to give students and young adults with special needs the opportunity to fully experience being a part of a theater production! Muskegon Civic Theatre was the very first chapter in the state of Michigan and we are so proud that this will be our seventh Penguin Production! Please feel free to share the photo and information regarding the show with your staff, school, and on your social media! We would love to see a full house this weekend! Performances are Saturday, September 7th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, September 8th at 3:00 PM. Both performances will take place in the Frauenthal Theater in downtown Muskegon. More information can be found at muskegoncivictheatre.org

We are looking forward to seeing everyone Friday night for The Rocket City Kickoff 2024. The celebration of community will start at 5:00 before the home football game at 7:00.

We would also like to congratulate Kenzie Wilbur, along with her team, on a 4th pace finish for their table top creation in the Michigan Pro Start Invitational. The theme for this year’s design competition was “Mitten Made.” Drawing upon Michigan’s
history and culture for inspiration, students were required to present four main components including development of a menu, creation of a table setting, presentation of the table and the team’s ability to answer questions about their table using critical thinking skills.
The table looks amazing! Great job.

Congratulations to our RPHS CTC students that competed and won first and second place at the recent Michigan ProStart Competition, an annual culinary and management
competition hosted by the Michigan Hospitality Foundation. More than 400 high school students, representing 28 Michigan schools across the state, competed in the The competition helps students gain firsthand experience in critical industry skills like food safety, business management, menu development and marketing.
Using only two butane burners for cooking, students had to prepare an entrée, side option, and beverage in line with the National Restaurant Association’s Kids’ Live Well and USDA menu criteria for nutrition. The meals also had to pass the test of their target audience: kids.
Placing first in the state for nutrition, and earning a combined $28,000 in scholarships, was Eric Wildfong and his team. The team’s winning meal was a “Panda Power Box,” which featured Asian-inspired foods including brown rice, orange sauce,
white beam omelets, carrots, cucumbers, and dragon fruit. The students also paired the meal with a delicious iced bamboo tea and pineapple juice. The students provided recipes, menu price and a nutritional analysis for the meal, which was judged by industry professionals, as well as child judges, who scored the meals for presentation and taste to ensure the teams were appealing to their target audience.
Placing second in the same category was the Taco Fiesta menu created by teammates Ajay Bell and team. Their meal featured mini tacos, lettuce, tomato, sweet peppers, cilantro, scallions, lime, and Creamy Fiesta Sauce. Each teammate received a $1,000 scholarship
The first-place teams for the culinary and management categories of the competition move onto the National ProStart® Invitational. In addition, more than $500,000 in scholarships were available this year to students seeking to continue their post-secondary education in hospitality-related fieds.
Way to go Eric, Ajay, and teams. Way to go Rockets!

ESSER lll Funding - Stakeholder Input Survey "2"
In December 2021, Reeths-Puffer district and community stakeholders were invited to have input on how the district could best use American Recovery Act funds to recover from learning loss in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are pleased to report that all projects originally approved under this grant have been completed or are under way.
We are once again seeking input on how to best use the remaining funds from that grant. These funds are for one-time or short-term expenditures to address post-pandemic learning loss. Please take time to let us know your opinion by completing this brief survey by 2:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2024.
