There was an amazing team effort from the 7th grade Rockets as they came storming back against the Bucs. Unfortunately, a couple of bad possessions and some poor free-throw shooting stalled the effort. JC Tornes, Connor McManus and Braylon Swain put up some big points for the home team while Easton Roberts, Rowan Moyer and Brendan Guikema played some of their best basketball of the year. As usual, Bryce Muskovin was all over the place to provide some much needed energy; sadly, a couple of quick fouls ended his night early. Also, a shout out to the Landons (Howland and Nash) who really provided solid minutes.

The 8th grade basketball team put forth one of their best efforts of the season last night and came away with a huge 50-42 win against Grand Haven. Marvin Moore led in scoring once again with 25 points, while Kristian Brown had a season's best game with 13. Coach Schlaff would like to publicly thank ALL of the players on the team for their hard work and dedication to improvement this season. Those players are Marvin Moore, Kristian Brown, Ethan Frang, Alex Kieft, Cohen Beck, Zach Kuerth, Emcee McLaurin, Carson McCollum, Travis Haynes, Jack Yonkman, Cory Judd, Owen Ritsema, and Blake Kiel.

Despite playing one of their better team games of the season, the 7th grade Rockets were unable to remain unbeaten at home. JC Tornes, Connor McManus and Braylon Swain led the offensive charge while Bryce Muskovin, Brendan Guikema and Easton Roberts led on the defensive end. Jeremiah Plumhoff and Lyric Stewart came off the bench to provide a boost as solid role players. Unfortunately for the Rockets, a well executed game winning shot at the buzzer rimmed out against the Sailors as they were ready to roll in OT.

Despite a strong second half and good team rebounding, the 7th grade Rockets couldn’t quite climb their way out of the giant hole they dug in the first half against West Ottawa. Six steals and seven rebounds from Bryce Muskovin led some inspired defense that was being aided by JC Tornes, Connor McManus, Braylon Swain and Brendan Guikema on the offensive end. McManus also contributed on the boards with ten rebounds. The Rockets look to bounce back at home next week on Monday against the visiting Sailors on Monday and Grand Haven on Wednesday.

The 7th grade road woes continue as they couldn’t quite overcome the first half hole they put themselves in like they have so many times before. After a solid offensive effort by JC Tornes, Connor McManus, Braylon Swain and Bryce Muskovin got the Rockets back into the game against a tough Little Reds defense, they couldn’t quite put enough defensive stops together to tilt the game in their favor. Great gap defense by Lyric Stewart and Austin Burnham provided a slight boost but fell short. Wednesday gives them one last road opportunity to figure things out.

Our Rocket Competitive Cheer Team placed second place over the weekend at Rockford. Despite the penalty’s the girls received they still beat both their personal records! They are ready to put in work and score even higher this week!

What a busy week for the RPMS Rocket Competitive Cheer Team! On Tuesday night in Mona Shores they finished third overall out of 14 teams. Improving even more on Wednesday in Grandville, the ladies had the best score in their group and once again finished third overall out of 14 teams. This Saturday they look to improve even more in Rockford. Go Rockets!

The 7th grade Rockets remained perfect at home thanks to some solid team defense and clutch free-throws from Braylon Swain. Jenison played a solid fourth quarter to take a one point lead in the final seconds; however, Swain hit to big shots from the stripe and then the defense sealed the win. JC Tornes and Bryce Muskovin both had four steals in the effort while Swain, Connor McManus and Tornes kept the Wildcats off the glass. Tornes also led all scorers with 23 points. Next week has the Rockets back on the road in hopes of ending some woes away from home.

The 7th grade Rockets remained perfect at home as they used a 9-0 run late in the 4th quarter that was sparked by a three-point play by Jeremiah Plumhoff to squeak past a very good Hamilton squad. Great team defense and rebounding ended up being the difference with Connor McManus grabbing thirteen boards and Bryce Muskovin hustling for ten of his own along with five steals. RP scoring was led by a game high of twenty from JC Tornes and six from Braylon Swain. It’s another home stand for the Rockets on Wednesday as they look to get a little redemption against Jenison.

Last night the 8th grade basketball team put forth their best effort of the year but came up just short in a double-overtime loss to Hamilton Middle School. Marvin Moore etched his name into the history books, scoring 45 points! Cohen Beck also had a good offensive game, scoring his season high of 9. The next game is home on Wednesday against Jenison.

The 8th grade basketball team ran into another strong opponent last night in a loss to Valleywood Middle School in East Kentwood. Marvin Moore led the team with 16 points, while Ethan Frang and Cohen Beck each added 4. The Rockets next game is home next Monday against Hamilton.

The road woes continue for the Rockets as they just can’t seem to get things going when they get off of a bus. At East Kentwood, it was the overall team help side defense and aggressiveness on the glass that were the crucial factors. Early miscues hurt the momentum as they stayed in the game through offensive efficiency from JC Tornes, Connor McManus and Lyric Stewart who put in sixteen, eleven and four respectively. Unfortunately, there were too many holes in the defense to capture a road win. They will look to rebound (pun intended) next week against Hamilton.

RPMS Competitive Cheer still scored a 262.3, despite all the obstacles the team had to over come this week. This placed them 6th out of 12 teams competing at the meet in Jenison. The girls are ready to put in work and score even higher at the Mona Shores meet next week

Cold shooting and soft gap defense doomed the Rockets last night when they traveled to Mona Shores in 7th grade basketball action. JC Tornes led all scorers with a dozen points and six rebounds. Connor McManus added four points and five rebounds. Landon Nash’s big bucket tried to rally the Rockets, but they simply could not deliver from the field as it marked their only bucket outside the painted area. Anything outside of two feet from the rim was just not happening as there was a tight lid on the hoop. They will attempt to end their road woes this week when they travel to Grand Haven to take on the Bucs.

The 7th grade Rocket basketball team played for a packed house against the visitors from Muskegon. As the crowd noise grew, so did the Rocket lead as they pushed to a 50-39 victory. A big three to end the half by Braylon Swain provided the momentum to dominate the second half. JC Tornes took over with a game high nineteen points and seven rebounds. Connor McManus was a huge target down low with eight points and six boards. Swain and Bryce Muskovin contributed seven and six points respectively while Easton Roberts, Braeden Monette and Lyric Stewart put in a combined ten. It was a superb homestand for the Rockets as they continue to show daily improvement.

The Rocket Cross Country teams competed in their final conference meet last night. Kicking off, the JV girls team took 5th place overall, taking down some BIG competitors. The varsity ladies took 7th place out of 15 teams defeating some stiff competition that beat us early in the season. Jersi Bilek brought home some hardware taking 11th place overall. Setting personal records for the girls were Sophia McCollum, Darcy Keefe, Bella Cole, Keeley Cole, Jocelyn Wynsma, Ava Turnage, and Julia Darling. The boys came ready to set personal records and were very successful. Every single boy set a new personal record! The cross country teams will compete in their final meet on Saturday at the city meet!
