The Reeths-Puffer girls golf team isn’t wasting any time this season.

After a great performance at Wednesday’s Mona Shores Invitational, the Rockets maintained their momentum by tying for seventh place in the 18-team Sydney Carfine Memorial Tournament on Friday at Grand Valley State University.

Reeths-Puffer shot a combined team score of 383, which was their third straight round this season of shooting under 400. Last year the Rockets only scored below 400 one time.

Senior standout Paige Anderson led the way again, shooting an 81, tying for ninth place and earning “All-Tournament” honors for the third time this season.

R-P freshman Sophia McCollum, who earned "All-Tournament" honors for the first time.

“Paige continues to play well,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “Our pace of play was not good today. I feel that really disrupted Paige’s rhythm today. She has played in three tournaments and has earned top 10 medals in all three. The scary part for our competition is her best golf is yet to come.”

Promising freshman Sophia McCollum shot an 81, tied for 16th place and was named “All-Tournament” for the first time in her varsity career. He round was highlighted by a 50-foot birdie putt on the third hole.

Rowan Bluhm had two birdies and shot a 94 for the Rockets. Abby Haak came in at 120 and Avery Luna shot a 130.

The Rockets will be back at GVSU on Tuesday to play in the Forest Hills Central Invitational.

“It has been a long week with us playing four 18-hole events,” Pallett said. “I challenged the team and I believe they responded well. The girls are looking forward to coming back to the Meadows on Tuesday to see if they can improve their scores.”
