7th Grade Basketball vs West Ottawa

Rockets Come Up Empty

For the second consecutive night the Rockets looked to pull out a big win against a very solid team in the final minute; unfortunately, they came up short again despite a wonderful team effort.  A couple of huge buckets by the hot hand of Maddilynn Dyer launched the Rockets into an early lead over the visitors from West Ottawa.  The steady play of Jenna Terpstra and Mya Swain, who scored ten and six respectively, gave the ladies a halftime lead.  A quick start by the Panthers in the second half secured the lead for the visitors, but tough rebounding by Madison Ingersoll and Mya Swain kept the hosts within striking distance. Solid perimeter defense by Kyleigh Bilek, Kiera Ketner and Chloe Brainard and a huge bucket by Savannah Lockwood late in the game gave RP a chance to avenge an early season loss to the Panthers.  It simply was not in the cards to pull off a season ending victory for the girls, though.  West Ottawa proved to be a very disciplined team down the stretch and hung on for the narrow win.  RP should be very proud of their 7th grade squad as they continued to improve throughout the year but were just never able to get over the hump in the close games.  We are...RP.
