The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team extended its winning streak to 10 games on Friday with a 58-41 home victory over Wyoming in O-K Green conference action.

After the game, the Rockets learned that they are in first place by themselves in the conference standings after Muskegon lost to Zeeland West.

The Rockets are now 13-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference. Muskegon and Zeeland West are 8-2 in the O-K Green. R-P has four regular season games left, all in the conference.

Wyoming led 18-16 after the first quarter, then the Rockets took control with a 14-9 advantage in the second and a 16-6 advantage in the third.

Senior Sophia Hekkema had a huge game, pumping in 22 points with nine rebounds. Junior Brooklynn Tornes added 18 points and 11 rebounds while senior Ashlynn Anderson also snagged 11 boards.

Irelyn Niklasch and Ariel Walker each had six rebounds.

“I thought we did a great job collectively on the defensive end of the floor,” said R-P Coach Rodney Walker. “Ashlynn Anderson and Irelyn Niklasch did a great job controlling the rebounds to limit Wyoming to one shot offensively.

“I thought we controlled the tempo of the game in the second half.”

The Rockets will continue their quest for the conference title when they visit Zeeland East on Tuesday.
