R-P wrestler

Reeths-Puffer senior Caden Huddleston was one of three R-P wrestlers who posted perfect 5-0 records on Saturday in series of dual meets at Alma High School.

Huddleston won four matches at 157 pounds – three by pin and one by points – and won by forfeit in the other match.

He pinned Xavier Doke of Comstock Park in 2:43, Dustin Claeys of Almont in 5:06 and Justus Forell of Hastings on 34 seconds. He also beat Josh Dew of St. Louis 10-2.

“Caden had a great day and contributed a lot for the team,” said R-P wrestling coach Jared Fleming. “The guys fought really hard and wrestled tough. It was a good weekend for us.”

Other 5-0 wrestlers for Reeths-Puffer were Kaden Malotke at 138 and 144 pounds and Ian Cook at 126 pounds.

Posting 4-1 records were Jake Rozycki (113), Nathan Stafford (285), Sage Secrest (165) and Omillion Wyrick (175).

As a team the Rockets posted a 3-2 record. They beat Caledonia 61-16, Almost 78-6 and Comstock Park 53-18 while falling to Hastings 40-29 and St. Louis 42-27.

“Hastings is a great team that hasn’t lost a lot this year,” Fleming said. “St. Louis is one of the best teams in Division 4. So to have (close matches) with both of those teams was a solid start. We then took it to Almont and were 1-2, then we wrestled Comstock Park for the second time (this season) and Caledonia and beat both of those teams pretty handily.”
