The Reeths-Puffer wrestling team had a great night on Wednesday, posting two big dual match victories at Fruitport High School.

The Rockets cruised past Muskegon 65-12 in O-K Green conference action, then downed Fruitport 61-15 in a non-conference match.

The biggest star of the evening was R-P senior Kaden Malotke, who posted two victories and reached the career 100-win mark.

R-P posted victories in 12 of 14 weight classes against Muskegon and 11 of 14 against Fruitport.

R-P's Kaden Malotke, who had two pins and reached the 100-victory career mark.

Two-match winners for the Rockets were Malotke (138), Brayden Chase (106), Jake Rozycki (120), Ian Cook (126), Owen Schab (144), Caden Huddleston (157), Sage Secrest (165), Omillion Wyrick (175), Caleb Zimmerman (190) and Nathan Stafford (285).

“I'm super proud of how we wrestled tonight," said R-P Coach Jared Fleming. "The scoreboard doesn't tell the truth of it, but Muskegon and Fruitport are two tough teams and we were expecting a battle. We spent all week prepping for a battle and our guys showed up in every possible way.

“We fought hard to get bonus points and wins against Muskegon. Everyone wrestled really tough and it started with Jake Rozycki going up to 120 and getting a hard-fought victory to get the team heading in the right direction.

R-P's Omillion Wyrick, who had pins against both Muskegon and Fruitport.

“Fruitport is a great program with a solid coach in Chad Johnson, who we have a lot of respect for. We were trying to match up lineups all week and give our guys the best chance to win. Everything kind of swung our way in that dual.”

Malotke reached the career 100-win mark with two pins. He stopped Muskegon’s Lamar Bradford in 3:23 and Fruitport’s Blair Zimmer in 1:56.

“It's so cool to see a guy work so hard and see it come to fruition over the course of his career,” Fleming said about Malotke. “He's a great young man who deserves the extra shoutout and a pat on the back for the hard work he puts in.”
