The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team suffered a tough 58-54 loss to Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday in O-K Green conference action.

The Rockets led 18-15 after one quarter and 27-25 at halftime. Union came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring R-P 17-9 behind Yoel Abraham’s 11 points (including three triples) and led 42-36 headed into the fourth.

The Red Hawks then made 9 of 10 free throws in the final quarter to seal down the victory. Union’s Marquan Ross was 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch.

Jaxson Whitaker continued his hot scoring pace with 27 points for Reeths-Puffer. Travis Ambrose added 17 points while Whitaker, Kyle Schlaff and Antrel Jones each had four assists.

“We need to regroup and execute better on both ends and win more of the loose balls,” said R-P coach Nate Aardema.

The Rockets, now 3-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play, will visit Wyoming on Friday.
