A bad second and third quarter doomed the Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team in a 57-44 road loss to the Muskegon Big Reds on Friday night.

The Rockets only trailed 9-8 after one quarter, but Muskegon took control with a 13-6 edge in the second and a 17-10 advantage in the third.

R-P found its offense in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

R-P's Sophia Hekkema, who had 13 points and nine rebounds on Friday.

“Muskegon did a good job defensively to disrupt what we do offensively,” said Reeths-Puffer coach Rodney Walker. “We have to get better controlling the tempo of the games against good teams like Muskegon.”

Sophia Hekkema led the Rockets with 13 points and nine rebounds. Brooklynn Tornes added 12 points and Ariel Walker scored eight.

Reeths-Puffer, now 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play, will host Grand Rapids Union in another conference matchup on Tuesday.
