The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team traveled to Zeeland West for its final conference match of the season on Tuesday and fell 3-1.

The Rockets got off to a great start, winning the first set 25-21, but lost the next three 25-18, 25-16, 25-16.

“We came out strong in the first set,” said R-P coach Justin Birr. “We passed great, which helped our offense run effectively. We played aggressively and won the 50/50 balls.

“In the sets that followed we lost our consistency in serve-receive, and that hurt us offensively. Give credit to Zeeland West because they tightened things up and ran a much more efficient offense when compared to the first set.

"Overall I’m proud of our effort and our growth throughout the conference season.”

The R-P offense was led by Madisyn Dykema and Sophia Hekkema with seven and five kills, respectively. Lauren Nelson and Meg Barmes paced the defense with seven digs apiece while Dykema and Billie Tryska each had two blocks.

The Rockets will compete against several other teams at Whitehall on Thursday, then will play Mona Shores next week in the first round of districts.
