Reeths-Puffer freshman Jersey Bilek had the best day of her season so far on Saturday, placing seventh individually at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association cross country meet at University Park Golf Course.

Bilek finished with a personal best time of 20:03 in the race, despite dealing with some personal health issues recently.

With her sudden improvement, it will be interesting to see how Bilek fares on Wednesday in the O-K Green Conference championship meet, as well as upcoming regionals.

R-P's Jersi Bilek shows off her medal for placing seventh at Saturday's city meet.

“Jersi has been struggling with some health setbacks, but she has worked diligently these past few weeks to recover,” said R-P girls cross country coach Lindsay Keefe. “She definitely came back in full force on Saturday. It was great to watch her take control and run the race her way and feel good while doing it.

“I am very proud of how she did not let any of these setbacks bring her down or deter her from showing up every day and doing the workouts with her team.”

R-P sophomore Adrienne Fluette placed 37th overall and ran her second fastest time at 22:27. Senior Eva Shinabery had one of her fastest times this season, finished in 22:49, which was good for 39th place.

Junior Ellie Knapp turned in her second fastest time of the season at 23:08 and placed 41st. Senior Allison Jakobi also turned in her second-best time at 23:21 and took 42nd place.

The Rockets placed fifth out of eight teams with 127 points. Mona Shores won the event with 32 points.
