The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team got off to a strong start in the O-K Green conference tournament on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Holland.

The Rockets got an easy win in the first set, 25-15, then had to buckle down to sweep the match, winning the second and third sets 25-22 and 25-21.

It was Senior Night for the team, honoring the eight girls who are in their final seasons.

The seniors on the squad are Lauren Nelson, Madisyn Dykema, Billie Tryska, Sophia Corradin, Sophia Hekkema, Melaina Peterson, Lauren Kleynenberg and Jillian Singleton.

R-P's Madisyn Dykema, who was one of eight seniors honored on Tuesday.

All but Tryska, who is recovering from an injury, were able to play in the match on Tuesday.

Dykema had a typically productive night with 13 kills and three aces. Hekkema contributed eight kills, Corradin had four and Nelson served seven aces.

Defensively, Nelson led the way with four blocks and Hekkema had three digs.

Peterson contributed two kills, Singleton had one ace and two digs and Kleynenberg had one ace and one dig.

“It was an important first step in the O-K Green tournament,” said R-P coach Justin Birr. “It was great to honor all eight of our seniors. All seven of our available seniors played in each set, and it was great to see them together on the court.

"Although it was not our strongest lineup, we got the job done and the seniors had fun. That’s what Senior Night is all about.”

The Rockets will next compete in Saturday’s big GMAA tournament in their own gym, then will face top-seeded Zeeland East next Tuesday in the second round of the conference tournament.

Reeths-Puffer is now 14-14-2 on the season.
