R-P tennis players

The Reeths-Puffer boys tennis team wrapped up its season by competing at an MHSAA Division 2 regional tournament on Thursday at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern High School.

The Rockets tied with Cedar Springs for fourth place in the team standings with three points. Forest Hills Northern won the event.

R-P had three doubles teams win their first matches and advance to the second round.

At No. 1 doubles, Jake VandenBosch and Zade Rogers beat Cedar Springs’ Evan Mattson and Kyle Parks 6-0, 6-1.

R-P's Jaxson Whitaker and Travis Ambrose (No. 2 doubles) won a regional match in their first season of playing organized tennis.

VandenBosch and Rogers later fell to Traverse City Central’s Aden King and Parker Welch 6-4, 6-0.

At No. 2 doubles, R-P’s Travis Ambrose and Jaxson Whitaker downed Northview’s Caleb Hoyh and Asher Vincent 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. They later fell to Forest Hills Northern’s Kyle Wang and Sam DeRoos 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 4 doubles, R-P’s Cory Judd and Trent VanDam beat Greenville’s Ethan DeKraker and Knowlton Phelps 6-2, 6-1. They later lost to Forest Hills Northern’s Matt Christopher and Jackson Walker 6-0, 6-0.

The Rockets finished in fifth place this season in the tough O-K Green conference and had two flight champions at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Tournament – VandenBosch and Rogers at No. 1 doubles and Ethan Frang at No. 4 singles.
