R-P volleyball players

The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team shot past the .500 mark in impressive fashion on Thursday, downing three opponents in straight sets in a four-team meet at R-P.

The Rockets defeated Kenowa Hills 25-19, 25-12, Holton 25-15, 25-19 and Oakridge 25-11, 25-20.

The three wins followed a big victory over Holland on Tuesday and left Reeths-Puffer with a 13-10-2 season record.

Reeths-Puffer standout Madisyn Dykema, who had 27 kills in the three matches.

"We played with energy and grit," said R-P Coach Justin Birr. "Using the word proud is a big deal for me - I use it sparingly. However, I am so proud of the teamwork and hustle displayed on the court. All 11 of our available players contributed, and we supported each other, even when we got behind by a few points."

Madisyn Dykema led the offense again with 27 kills while serving three aces. Sophia Hekkema had 15 kills and three aces and Natalie Kunnen contributed eight kills and one ace.

Defensively Megan Barmes had 19 digs, Hekkema totaled 17 and Jillian Singleton had eight. Kunnen had five blocks and Dykema totaled five digs and three blocks.

The Rockets will compete in a tournament at Mona Shores on Saturday.
