The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team got a very welcome victory on Tuesday, downing Holland 3-0 in an O-K Green conference match.

The set scores were 25-14, 25-21, 26-24.

The Rockets have been struggling lately and had a very tough time last week, losing in three sets to arch-rival Mona Shores.

That loss prompted R-P Coach Justin Birr to challenge the players to step up their game, and they responded with a very strong performance against the Dutch.

R-P's Sophia Hekkema, who had nine kills and 10 digs in Tuesday's victory.

“We needed this win badly, and the girls came through tonight,” Birr said. “We pulled up another middle hitter from the JV team, Hailey Johnsen, and she added some much-needed height to our block in the front row. We made some moves on defense, and Sophia Hekkema stood out playing middle back.

“Overall it was a good team win. Everyone contributed, and our game looked better in all aspects. We passed better, set better and hit better.”

Madisyn Dykema led the Rockets with 13 kills and three aces. Hekkema had nine kills and two aces, Lauren Nelson added six kills and two aces while Allison McManus had six kills.

Defensively Hekkema led the way with 10 digs and two blocks, Nelson had three digs and McManus had two digs and one block.

The Rockets, now 10-10-2 on the season, will host Holton, Oakridge and Kenowa Hills in a quad match on Thursday.
