One day after after winning the GMAA tournament championship, the Reeths-Puffer girls golf team got off to a slow start at Thursday’s O-K Green conference jamboree at Broadmoor Country Club.
That led to a third-place finish out of five teams.
R-P totaled 179 points, behind first-place Byron Center (169) and Caledonia (176). Finishing behind the Rockets were Jenison (185) and Mona Shores (211).
One Rocket who did just fine, despite the busy week, was senior Sophia McCollum, who finished in first place overall, two shots ahead of Caledonia’s Gabby Sternberg.
McCollom, who won her third straight individual title at the GMAA tournament a day earlier, birdied on her first hole and shot a 37.

The first-place finish was her sixth of the season.
R-P’s Olivia Ambler finished ninth individually with a 45. It was the seventh time she finished among the top 10 golfers this season.
Ella Voorhies shot a 47 for the Rockets while Abby Davis and Tala Johnson both scored 50.
“We got off to a little bit of a slow start today,” said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. “Several of the girls regrouped and turned it around, which was good to see. We have a number of meaningful events coming up which will test not only our physical game, but our mental toughness as well.”
The Rockets will host their own Rocket Invitational on Friday at Lincoln Golf Course.
