The Byron Center volleyball team is ranked fourth in the state in Division 1, and does not lose very often.
The powerful Bulldogs came into Tuesday with a 22-3 record, so Reeths-Puffer, a talented but pretty inexperienced squad, had a pretty big challenge on its hands.
The Rockets did indeed come up short, falling to Byron Center 25-12, 25-14, 25-13 in an O-K Green conference match.
The loss ended what had been the most successful streak of the season so far for R-P, which had won five straight matches, including four on Saturday at Whitehall.

The Rockets are now 13-9-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play. They will continue conference play on Thursday at Mona Shores, another traditionally tough O-K Green foe.
“Tomorrow is a new day,” said R-P head coach Syann Fairfield. “We’ll get to prepare for the next opponent.”
Lexie Danz led the R-P effort with four kills while Mackenzie Danz and Peyton Radel each had three. Kate Tindall totaled 12 assists.
Defensively, Lexie Danz had eight digs, Leah Zuniga had seven and and Mackenzie Danz had six.
“Peyton Radel and Makayla Jewett really worked hard tonight,” Fairfield said. “They executed our blocking plan and I’m super proud of how they showed up and worked hard.”
