The O-K Green conference championship race is wide open in girls golf, and Reeths-Puffer is right in the middle of it.
The Rockets finished in second place on Tuesday in the second conference jamboree of the season, played at Railside Golf Course.
The Rockets finished with a score of 174, behind first-place Byron Center, which came in at 169. Caledonia (189), Jenison (192) and Mona Shores (228) rounded out the standings.

R-P also finished second in the first jamboree this season, but there have been two different first place teams – Caledonia in the first event and Byron Center on Tuesday. As a result the Rockets are tied for first place heading into Thursday’s O-K Green Mid-Season Tournament at The Pines Golf Course.
“The team has set some high, but realistic goals,” said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. “We are working hard to achieve them. The girls all want to get better. There is no doubt in my mind that we will continue to improve, both as individuals and as a team. I am looking forward to what this team can achieve.”
One Rocket who probably won’t have to fight for a conference title is senior Sophia McCollum, the defending Division 2 individual state champion.
She took first place in the individual standings on Tuesday with a 34 round, which was her career low score for a nine-hole outing. McCollum, who also took the top spot at the first jamboree, birdied on her last three holes and finished five strokes ahead of Mona Shores’ Avery Nehra, who finished second.
Ella Voorhies
“Sophia continues to impress,” Pallett said. “She is never satisfied and she works hard to stay on top.”
R-P senior Ella Voorhies also had a very good outing, shooting a 44 and finishing seventh individually.
“I’m very happy for and proud of Ella Voorhies,” Pallett said. “She had some swing issues and put the time in at practice to work through those. It paid off for her today and she had a great day.”
Senior Olivia Ambler finished 10th overall with a 46 round while Kayleigh Brown rounded out the R-P scorers with a 50.
Competing but not scoring for R-P were were freshmen Abby Davis and Tala Johnson, who shot a 53 and 60, respectively.
