Two brand new freshmen runners took center stage for the Reeths-Puffer girls cross country team on Tuesday at the season-opening Eagle Invitational at Fruitport Calvary Christian.
Freshman Harper Roberts kicked off her varsity career by taking seventh place with a time of 21:47.53, while fellow ninth-grader Hope Gordon finishing 10th with a time of 22:20.77.

They were the only two freshmen in the top 10 of the event. Only three finished in the top 20.
Holton's Ryleigh Alderink took first place individually with a time of 20:23.70.
The Reeths-Puffer team took fourth place in the event with 98 points.

Mona Shores took first with 49 points, followed by Fruitport (58) and Western Michigan Christian (66).
R-P senior Darcy Keefe took 19th place individually with a time of 23:51.20, senior Grace Cosens finished 46th with a time of 27:28.63 and junior Sidney Shackelford finished 50th with a time of 28:06.13.
“We had massive energy,” said R-P head coach Lindsay Keefe. “We completely shook off those first-race jitters to run with total heart. This squad is young and slightly inexperienced, but we’re just getting warmed up.”
