Junior Evan McHugh scored three goals on Monday, helping the Reeths-Puffer boys soccer team break into the victory column with an 8-0 victory over Muskegon in the O-K Green conference opener for both teams.
Senior London Carpenter also had a good night for the Rockets, scoring two goals and adding three assists.
Before the season, R-P head coach Kody Harrell predicted that McHugh would have a breakout season offensively, and so far he seems right.

McHugh now has four goals on the season, after scoring one in last week’s season opener.
“We are really happy he’s having early season success, and about the way he’s doing it,” Harrell said about McHugh. “We’re excited about what this is going to do for his confidence.”
Harrell was also happy to see his young team get its first win of the season, after dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker to Coopersville in its first game.

"A lot of these guys experienced their first varsity win," he said.
The other goal scorers for R-P were Chase Hoeft, Oliver Hunt and Adrian Jackson.
Andrew Eilers had two assists while McHugh, Kam David and Rylie Burmeister all had one. Evan McCollum was the winning goalie.
The Rockets, now 1-1, will continue conference play on Wednesday with a game at Byron Center.
