Reeths-Puffer senior Kristian Brown has offered promising hints of how good he can be in several events throughout the season.

Now it looks like the Rockets’ No. 1 golfer may be getting hot at just the right time, with regionals right around the corner.

Brown shot an 18-hole score of 76 on Monday, finished fifth in the individual standings and won an all-tournament medal at the Tom Wilson Invitational at the Muskegon Country Club, hosted by Mona Shores.

Brown birdied a very difficult Hole 10, and had an impressive stretch where he shot par on eight straight holes.

“Kristian had one of his better rounds of golf today,” said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. “He played very solid throughout the round. He hit a lot of quality shots today. He is starting to peak at the right time.”

Brown helped the Rockets finish 12th out of 18 teams with a combined score of 346. Forest Hills Northern won with a 304 score while Mona Shores was second at 309.

R-P freshman Ian Vokal was second on the team with an 84 round, with birdies on two holes. Sophomore Beckitt Johnson shot a 90 while Beckett Mathes shot a 96.

“Ian Vokal and Beckitt Johnson are two underclassmen that continue to get better for us,” Pallett said. “They both had good stretches of golf today.

“Beckett Mathes finished his round strong today. It is good to see that he continued to battle after a difficult start.”

The Rockets will go head-to-head with Western Michigan Christian in a dual meet at the country club on Wednesday.
