Reeths-Puffer’s Jaslynn Kops is closing in on her team’s single-season scoring record.


Kops, only a junior, scored her 22nd goal of the season on Thursday, helping the Rockets close out their O-K Green conference schedule with a 3-0 victory over Jenison.

The current record is 23 goals, held by Sophia Hekkema. The Rockets are guaranteed at least two more games this season for Kops to tie the record– at Grand Rapids Christian on Saturday, then home against Cadillac in a first-round district game next Wednesday.

The Rockets led Jenison 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Mallorie Messer, who was assisted by Kops.

Kops scored her goal in the second half, with an assist from Abby Hill, while Messer scored her second goal late in the contest, with an assist from Hill.

R-P goalkeeper Ava Callender had nine saves, including one on a penalty kick. Grace Callender and Kate Tindall excelled on defense.

The Rockets are now 9-6-1 overall on the season, and finished their conference schedule with a 5-4-1 mark.
