The Reeths-Puffer boys golf team has an extra challenge this season, because it competes in a really strong conference.
On Wednesday the Rockets shot their best score of the season in an O-K Green conference jamboree, and still finished fifth out of five teams.
R-P shot a 170 at Saskatoon Golf Club in the fourth jamboree of the season. Mona Shores won the event with 151, followed by Jenison (153), Caledonia (157), Byron Center (162) and the Rockets.
Senior Kristian Brown led Reeths-Puffer with a nine-hole score of 40, which was good for 14th place in the individual standings.
Jordan Benkert
Junior Jordan Benkert and freshman Ian Vokal both shot a 43 while sophomore Beckitt Johnson shot a 44.
“Jordan Benkert has been a pleasant surprise this year,” said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. “He has really worked hard to put himself in the varsity lineup. He was injured for part of the season and is now healthy and playing well.”
R-P will host its own Rocket Invitational tournament on Friday at Lincoln Golf Club, then will host the final O-K Green jamboree of the season on Monday at Lincoln.
“We are still looking for a round that we get four guys to put it all together,” Pallett said. “We are at home for our next two events. The time to do it is now.”
