The bright side for the Reeths-Puffer boys golf team is that the biggest events of the season are still ahead - starting Wednesday with the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tournament - so there is ample time to improve.

Improvement is what what R-P head coach Matt Pallett will be looking for following his team's disappointing performance on Monday at the O-K Green Conference Midseason Tournament at Railside Golf Course.

The Rockets finished fifth out of five teams – and it was an unusually bad last place.

R-P finished with a team score of 365, a full 42 shots behind fourth-place Byron Center. Caledonia won the tournament with a 312 score.

The Rockets finished two shots ahead of Bryon Center in the most recent conference event, but nothing was working for them on Monday.

“We are struggling as individuals and as a team to find consistency out there,” Pallett said. “We have guys that are putting decent stretches of golf together, but just not complete rounds yet.

“We will continue to work to improve.”

The top Rocket was senior Kristian Brown, who shot an 84 and finished in 20th place in the individual standings.

Freshman Ian Vokel shot an 87, senior Beckett Mathes shot a 92 and junior Liam Thomas shot a 102.
