Reeths-Puffer senior golf standout Kristian Brown has been a little bit up and down so far this season, but Tuesday was definitely one of his better outings.

Brown birdied four holes, shot a team-best 38 and finished fourth in the individual standings at the third O-K Green conference jamboree of the season, played at Muskegon Country Club.

It was his best day since he finished first individually at the first conference jamboree of the season.

“Kristian Brown has played some real solid golf to start,” said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. “Unfortunately, he has had one or two shots or holes per round that have kept him from having a special round. He is close to putting together a low round.”

Brown’s performance helped the Rockets have their best night as a team in conference play, finishing fourth in the five-team field with a score of 172.

Mona Shores and Caledonia tied for first place at 155. Jenison was a shot behind at 156. Byron Center finished last with a 174.

Two seniors - Beckett Mathes and Beckitt Johnson - tied for R-P’s second-best score with a pair of 43 rounds. Mathes had a birdie on Hole 6 and posted a career low for his varsity career.

Beckett Mathes

Ian Vokal shot a 48 for the Rockets.

“I am really happy for Beckett Mathes,” Pallett said. “He has worked hard to put himself in position to contribute on the varsity. He is a good player that lacks a little self- confidence. Tonight was a big step in proving to himself that he can do it.

“We continue to look for consistency in our scoring. We look forward to a few days of practice and then the upcoming week when we play in our conference mid-season tournament and our county tournament.”
