The Reeths-Puffer girls tennis team is already known for its strong singles players.
When the doubles players start winning, too, it means good things for the Rockets.
That’s what occurred on Saturday, when the Rockets had success across their entire lineup, and it all added up to a championship at the Fruitport Invitational.
Hope Latsch
The Rockets and Ludington shared the title with 39 points apiece. They were followed by Fruitport (31), Whitehall (29), Fremont (14) and Muskegon Catholic Central (13).
Winning championships in their flights were R-P's Hope Latsch (No. 2 singles) and Molly Matz (No. 3 singles).
Latsch defeated Fruitport’s Emma Fecher 6-2, 6-3,; Whitehall’s Akeelah Martin 6-4, 6-0; and Ludington’s Sawyer Henderson in a tight battle, 5-7, 7-6 and then 10-3 in a tiebreaker.
Molly Matz
Matz downed Whitehall’s Riley Shafter 6-4, 6-2; Fremont's Sofie Curiel 6-0, 6-0; and Ludington’s Payton Stidham 6-2, 6-0.
Latsch and Matz each scored six points in the team standings for R-P.
Taking second place in their flights for the Rockets, with 2-1 records on the day, were Olivia Smith (No. 1 singles), Makayla Smith and Ava Dietz (No. 1 doubles), and Leah Shaver and Annalise Griffin (No. 4 doubles).

Smith and the two doubles teams each scored five points for R-P. All of the Rockets who took first or second place won individual medals.
Kaitlyn Durow (No. 4 singles), Kayleigh Brown and Lauren Slater (No. 2 doubles) and Brylee Gifford and Jayla Brink (No. 3 doubles) also went 2-1, took third place in their flights and scored four points apiece for the Rockets.
“As expected, our singles came through in local competition,” said R-P head coach Ryan Hankinson. “Seniors Hope Latsch and Olivia Smith won third set tiebreakers in their first matches of the day, which were essential to the team's success.

“Molly Matz swept all three of her matches in straight sets, dropping only eight games throughout the day. Kaitlyn Durow is settling into singles now and put together two great days back-to-back.
“But as history has shown the Rockets, depth is the key to winning. The four double teams all rose to the occasion, with each one going 2-1 on the day..
“As coach/0es we so excited about the direction this team is moving and the growth they are showing.”
