The Reeths-Puffer softball team hasn’t played a whole lot lately, due to a week-plus of spring break, followed by a rainout on Wednesday.
But when the Rockets have been able to take the field, they’ve continued to be really good.
They improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season on Friday with a pair of blowout victories over a pretty good Fruitport squad in non-conference action.
The pitching was great again in both games, while the bats piled up the runs. The defense was perfect, with zero errors in either game.
Lainey McDaniel, who struck out 10 batters in Game 1.
R-P won the opener 14-0, scoring five runs in the second inning, three in the fifth and six in the sixth.
Senior Lainey McDaniel pitched six innings while allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and 10 strikeouts.
The Rockets pounded out 17 total hits.
McDaniel, Caydence Rettinhouse and Tessa Ross each had three singles for R-P. Olivia Ambler and Lorelei Herrygers each had two singles while Ava Gibbs, Carlie Guikema and Madi Reichert each hit a double.
Rettinhouse and Ambler each stole three bases.

Reeths-Puffer completed the sweep with an 18-2 victory in Game 2. The Rockets scored two runs in the second inning, six in the third, two in the fourth and eight in the sixth. Fruitport scored its two runs in the third.
Guikema pitched the first two innings, allowing two hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Makayla Jewett tossed the last four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, no walks and five strikeouts.
The Rockets had 21 hits. Guikema led the parade with five singles, Kennedy Masse had a single and two doubles, McDaniel had two singles and a double, Ambler and Rettinhouse each had two singles while Ross had a single and a double.
Kenzie Jacobs added a triple and Jewett hit a double.
