The Reeths-Puffer girls track team definitely has some potential for success this season, based on the results of its first outdoor meet of the season.
The Rockets opened on Wednesday in Whitehall and took first place in the three-team non-conference event.
R-P totaled 65 points, followed by Holland (45) and Whitehall (40).
The Rockets place first in eight of the 17 events.
Jersi Bilek
Individual winners were Jersi Bilek in the 400-meter dash (1:01.72) and the 1,600-meter run (5:33.64); Alyssa Hillin in the 100-meter hurdles (19.42) and 300-meter hurdles (56.71); Makayla Disselkoen in the high jump (4’ 10”) and Raquel Walker in the long jump (17’ 11”).
R-P also took first place in the 4x100-meter relay (Walker, Addyson Mitchelson, Wyn Waggoner, Jailynn Zuniga) with a time of 52.75, and the 4x200 relay (Ariana Siegel, Mattie Kemp, Jania Jerdine and Hillin) with a time of 201.60.
Mitchelson was second in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, Zaire Wright was second in shot put and Disselkoen was second in the high jump.
Finishing third for R-P were Bilek in the 200-meter dash. Taryn Gill in the 100 hurdles and Waggoner in the 300 hurdles.
“We are young and we are a small team,” said R-P head coach Parker Aerts. “But our group is close and enjoys working together and pushing one another. We had 19 personal bests on the day, which is hard to do in cold and windy conditions.
“We will keep working hard and we are excited for our conference opener this week against Byron Center.”
