The Reeths-Puffer softball team battled both Zeeland West and wet, clammy weather on Thursday afternoon and came away with a 14-5 victory in non-conference action.
R-P is now 3-0 on the season.
The Rockets started scoring right away in the first inning, and kept going until the game was well in hand.
Lainey McDaniel
They put up four runs in the first inning, three in the second and four in the third to take an 11-0 lead.
Zeeland West scored three runs in the third and two in the fourth, before the game was ended due to rain.
R-P Senior Lainey McDaniel had another good day at the plate and on the mound.
She hit a double and a triple, knocked in four runs and scored three herself. On the mound she pitched the win, striking out five.
Lorelei Herrygers
Lorelei Herrygers had two singles and scored three runs for the Rockets while Kenzie Jacobs and Makayla Jewett each knocked in two runs.
“Throughout the tough conditions tonight, our girls stay composed and continuously picked each other up all night to stay on top and come away with small win and after win,” said R-P head coach Sarah Bayle.
The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.
The Rockets will return to action on Monday when they visit Grand Rapids Northview.
