The Reeths-Puffer girls soccer team is very hot to start the season, and Jaslynn Kops is leading the Rockets with some pretty amazing scoring numbers.

The junior forward scored three more goals on Wednesday to lead the Rockets to an easy 8-0 victory over Tri-County at home in a non-conference matchup.

The Rockets are now 3-0 on the season, and Kops is already more than halfway to matching her scoring total from from last year, when she had 14 goals. She scored once in the season opener on Saturday, four times in a win on Monday, before adding the three on Wednesday.

The Rockets outshot the Vikings 28-5.

“Our girls are definitely taking chances from everywhere right now, but we’ve given them the green light,” said R-P head coach Kody Harrell about his team, which has outscored opponents 15-1 in the last two games.

“We will tighten things up, as far as what’s allowed with shooting and making sure we’re getting quality looks as the season plays out, but right now we’re just asking the girls to be super aggressive and they are. Really proud of their effort and the way they’re playing together.”

Ava Callender

Coach Harrell had high praise for freshman goalie Ava Callender, who has 18 saves on the 20 shots she has faced in three games this season, and posted her first shutout on Wednesday. A highlight for Callender was making a save on a Tri-County penalty kick.

“We dominated the pace of play and controlled the game, and because of that, they caught us sleeping and flatfooted a few times and created some solid transition moments, but Ava was able to keep them off the scoreboard,” he said.

The Rockets will host Cedar Springs on Friday.
