The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team had a five-game winning streak near the beginning of the season, and now the Rockets have matched that feat near the end of the schedule.

The Rockets posted their fifth victory in a row with a 48-45 win over Grand Rapids Christian on Tuesday at R-P’s Dan Beckeman Arena.

The big difference came in the third quarter, when the always tough R-P defense held the visitors to just one point.

The Rockets led 9-8 after one quarter, and the two teams each scored 13 points in the second, leaving R-P with a 22-21 halftime lead.

R-P had a 9-1 advantage in the third quarter and took a 31-22 lead into the fourth.

Abrianna Do, who had nine points and six rebounds.

The good third quarter allowed the Rockets to hang on down the stretch, when GR Christian came back to life offensively and had a 23-17 advantage, which was not quite enough to close the gap.

"We set the tone defensively, disrupting Grand Rapids Christian and converting their turnovers into fast-break scoring opportunities, while our offense moved the ball with purpose and knocked down open shots," said R-P head coach Rodney Walker.

"Tonight was a true team effort, with everyone contributing to the defensive pressure and sharing the scoring load on offense."

Raquel Walker had 18 points, eight rebounds and six steals for the Rockets. Abrianna Do totaled nine points and six rebounds while Ashlyn David had six points and seven rebounds.

Jaslynn Kops contributed three assists.

The Rockets, now 11-9, will host Ludington on Thursday in their final game of the regular season before heading to districts next week.
