The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team was unable to overcome a rough first quarter on Monday and ended up falling 44-30 to Byron Center in an O-K Green conference makeup game on the road.
R-P started out in a big hole after being outscored 16-2 in the first quarter. The Rockets only managed two free throws in the first eight minutes.
The game was a lot more competitive the rest of the way.
The Rockets were outscored 16-14 in the second quarter. Ashlyn David poured in eight points for R-P while Addison Mitchelson had a three-pointer.
Reeths-Puffer had a 9-7 advantage in the third quarter. Trinity Moore led the effort with a triple.

R-P was outscored 9-7 in the fourth quarter.
“We got off to a slow start and couldn’t overcome the early deficit Byron Center created in the first quarter, when they did a great job of disrupting our rhythm on offense,” said R-P head coach Rodney Walker.
“I was pleased with our rebounding and the effort on the boards, but we must find ways to start faster, handle pressure more effectively and execute better from the opening whistle.”
David finished with 13 points and five rebounds for the Rockets.
Raquel Walker snagged nine rebounds and Abrianna Do had four. Jaslynn Kops totaled six assists.
The Rockets, now 6-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, will host the Muskegon Big Reds on Tuesday night.
