The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team exploded for seven three-pointers in the first quarter on Monday and rode the early lead to an eventual 54-49 victory over Byron Center in O-K Green conference action.
Sophomore Hank Mitchelson led the early uprising with three triples and nine points in the first. Marvin Moore added two three-pointers while Zayden Schneider and Artis Williams each had one.
All of that gave R-P a big 26-11 lead after one quarter.

The Rockets were outscored 13-8 in the second quarter and led 34-24 at halftime. Justin Chan hit a triple and Walker also scored three points.
R-P was outscored 12-10 in the third quarter and led 44-36 headed into the fourth. Walker, Williams, Moore, Mitchelson and Justin Chan each had one two-point bucket.
Byron Center had a 13-10 advantage in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the R-P lead. Moore had five points and Schneider scored four down the stretch.
R-P ended up with nine three-pointers, just one fewer than its 10 two-point baskets. The Rockets were also efficient from the free-throw line, converting 7 of 10 shots.

Moore finished with 14 points, Mitchelson totaled 11, Walker had 10 and Williams and Schneider both scored seven points.
“It was a great team win from start to finish,” said R-P head coach JR Wallace. “We led the entire way. Zayden Schneider brought great energy off the bench and grabbed some timely rebounds.”
Reeths-Puffer, now 3-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play, will visit Muskegon to play the Big Reds on Tuesday night.
