The Reeths-Puffer boys bowling team got off to a slow start on Monday against Jenison, then made a bid for a comeback, but ended up falling to the Wildcats 21-9 in O-K Green conference play.
The Rockets dug themselves an early 10-0 hole, losing both baker games and the baker bonus points.
They rebounded in the first regular game, winning the overall score 953-934 and earning four team points. Tanner Bahr (213 game), Ryleigh Beebe (211) and Liam Copenhaver (204) also won their individual matchups in the game, adding another three team points.
Ryleigh Beebe, who had a good night with game scores of 211 and 236.
The comeback ended in the second regular game, however, when Jenison won 957-871 and collected the important four points. Beebe (236) and Bahr won their matchups in Game 2, salvaging two team points for the Rockets.
Reeths-Puffer fell to 4-4 overall on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
“This was a disappointing loss in a winnable match,” said R-P head coach Craig Alderink. “We found ourselves in a big hole after bowling two poor baker games and falling behind 10-0.
“The boys did make a nice recovery in the first regular game, but fell short in the last regular game and were unable to complete the comeback.”
