A four goal explosion in the second period gave the Reeths-Puffer hockey team just enough breathing room to claim a 4-3 victory over Hudsonville on Wednesday at Muskegon/’s Trinity Health Arena.

The victory was the third in four games for the Rockets, who improved to 10-7-1 overall on the season and 3-2 in the O-K Conference Fisher Division standings.

The first period was scoreless, then the Rockets exploded with a flurry of goals to take a commanding lead.

R-P’s Dom Switzer led it off with a goal less than a minute into the period, with assists from Jordan Benkert and Tyler Cuti.

Hudsonville scored with 9:31 left in the period to tie the score, then the Rockets struck with three unanswered goals.

Benkert scored his 12th goal of the season with 7:14 left in the second, with assists from Tyler Cuti and Eli Cuti. Hayden Taylor scored his 21st with 3:59 remaining, with an assist from Connor Anderson, and Tyler Cuti capped it off with his 13th goal with 41 seconds left, with an assist from Switzer.

Hudsonville got the only two goals of the third period to make the final score close, but the last goal came with only 41 seconds left in the game.

R-P goalie Bear VanDyke got the win in net.

The Rockets will return to action on Saturday against Mona Shores at 3 p.m. at Lakeshore Sports Centre. R-P will be trying to avenge an earlier loss to the rival Sailors.
