The Reeths-Puffer hockey team has hit a bit of a scoring drought, and it’s resulted in back-to-back losses coming out of the holiday break.

The latest came on Saturday, when the Rockets managed only two goals and fell 4-2 to Grand Rapids Catholic Central at Muskegon’s Trinity Health Arena.

On Tuesday, R-P managed only one goal and lost 3-1 to Mona Shores.

In the six games prior to that, the Rockets scored at least four goals in every game – including nine goals twice and eight once - resulting in five wins.

The Rockets fell to 7-6-1 on the season. GRCC improved to 8-2-3.

Reeths-Puffer and GRCC were even in the first period, with the two teams playing toa 2-2 tie.

The visitors opened the scoring with a goal by Cooper Maas less than two minutes into the game.

The Rockets tied the score with seven minutes left with a goal from Tyler Cuti, assisted by Connor Anderson and Rohan Moyer. They pulled ahead just over a minute later when Hayden Taylor found the net, with assists by Anderson and Eli Cuti.

The goal was Taylor’s 10th in the past five games. He leads the team with 15 so far this season.

That was all the offense R-P could muster, however.

GRCC’s Isaac Kampenga made the score 2-2 with 2:13 left in the first period, then the visitors scored the only other two goals of the game.

They both came in the second period, when Maas scored his second goal of the game, then Gage Potter followed up, giving GRCC its final margin of victory.

There was no scoring in the third period.

The Rockets will return to action on Wednesday with a road game against West Ottawa.
