The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team could not keep its five-game winning streak going on Tuesday, falling 64-43 to undefeated Grand Rapids South Christian in the Cornerstone University Holiday Showcase.
The Rockets put up a fight for one quarter, and the game was tied 14-14 headed into the second. Raquel Walker led R-P in the first with seven points.
South Christian took control by outscoring R-P 22-11 in the second quarter and 18-10 in the third. The Rockets played tough in the fourth quarter, and were only outscored 10-8.
R-P was a definite underdog in the game against South Christian, a state quarterfinal team last season which is continuing to roll with a 6-0 record so far this winter.

Reeths-Puffer fell to 5-2 and lost for the first time since its opening game against Grand Haven, another very powerful opponent.
“I thought our team showed resilience and grit down the stretch, regardless of the score,” said R-P head coach Rodney Walker. “We continued to fight and get better.”
Raquel Walker led the Rockets with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Grace Tindall added nine points and four rebounds and was named the team MVP for the game by tournament officials.
Ashlyn David contributed six points and four rebounds while Jaslynn Kops had four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
The Rockets will host West Ottawa on Jan. 9 in another non-conference game.
