The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team scored a season-high number of points with a more diverse scoring attack on Saturday.
Unfortunately for the Rockets, they could not stop their opponents from scoring at an even greater clip and fell 78-73 to Lowell at the Cornerstone University Showcase.
One of R-P’s biggest problems this year has been getting double-digit points from someone other than senior standout Marvin Moore, but it happened against Lowell.
Junior Anthony Neuman led the team with a personal season-high of 18 points while senior Justin Chan and Moore chipped in with 13 apiece.
Anthony Neuman, who led R-P with 18 points.
The first quarter proved to be the difference, with Lowell jumping out to a 26-18 lead heading into the second. Chan, Neuman and Hank Mitchelson each hit a three-pointer for the Rockets in the first.
The Red Arrows had a16-13 edge in the second quarter and led 42-34 at halftime. Neuman scored nine of R-P’s points in the quarter.
The Rockets had a 21-18 advantage in both the third and fourth quarters, with Moore scoring 11 of his 13 points in the fourth, but it wasn’t quite enough.
Neuman had seven rebounds for R-P while Zayden Scheider dished off seven assists.
“Rebounding is still a problem for us, and not taking care of the ball,” said R-P head coach JR Wallace. “I was happy to see Chan and Neuman have solid games.
“It’s a long process for us. We are trying to be the best version of ourselves by the end of the season, and we will try to get a win on Tuesday.”
Reeths-Puffer, now 1-5 on the season, will play Tri-Unity Christian on Tuesday in the tournament consolation game at Cornerstone.
