Even good teams have bad outings, and that was the case for the Reeths-Puffer wrestling squad on Wednesday night.

The Rockets went on the road to Greenville and fell to the host Yellowjackets 50-30 in a non-conference duel match.

The Rockets won five of 14 matches, all by pin.

The winners were Landon Learn (113 pounds), Travis Henderson (120), Jake Rozycki (157), Aiden Neal (165) and Andrew Corradin (190).

Neal and Corradin were particularly impressive, pinning state-ranked opponents.

But the Rockets were also pinned in seven matches, allowing Greenville to pile up bonus points and take control of the match. A team gets six points for a pin, as opposed to three for a regular point victory.

The outcome did not please R-P head coach Brad Cowles.

We had a few starters out of the lineup, but that’s not an excuse,” he said. “Greenville showed up ready to wrestle, and some of our guys came out flat. At this level, every match matters and every point counts.

We need to respond the right way, by getting back to work, tightening up the details, and bringing intensity from the first whistle to the last.

“This team is capable of much more, and we’ll prove it. Time to reset, refocus, and get better.”
