Two Reeths-Puffer wrestlers won individual weight class championships on Saturday at the Herm Wilkinson Highlander Classic at Howell High School.

Senior Jake Rozycki, coming off an injury-shortened junior season, took first place at 150 pounds with a perfect 4-0 record. Rozycki won two matches by pin and two by decision. He was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament in the upper weight classes.

Freshman standout Landon Learn also won a first place medal, going 4-0 and pinning his opponent in every match.

Several other Rockets had very good days, as well.

Sophomore Tanner Cowles (157 pounds) posted a 4-1 record and took third in his class. He had three pins and one decision.

Sophomore Travis Henderson (120 pounds) went 3-2 and finished in fourth place, Senior Devin Welch (215) went 3-2 and took fifth place, and sophomore Troy Swingley (285) went 2-3 and finished sixth.

In the girls competition, sophomore Sidney Shakelford posted a 3-2 mark and finished in fourth place.

In the team standings, the Rockets did very well, finishing in fifth place out of 25 in the tournament.

“The team showed up, battled hard, and put on a show!” said R-P head coach Brad Cowles.
