Good days are becoming a lot more common for the Reeths-Puffer volleyball team than they used to be.
The latest one came on Saturday, when the Rockets, with their interesting blend of older and younger talent, posted an impressive 3-1 record at the Whitehall Invitational.
R-P posted straight set victories over West Michigan Aviation Academy (25-8, 25-4) and Kent City (25-23, 25-22). The Rockets also had an exciting comeback win over Whitehall, losing the first set 23-25, then rallying to win the final two sets, 25-10 and 15-8.
The Rockets' only loss came to Newaygo (18-25, 23-25).
Mairyn Peterson
Reeths-Puffer is now 15-11 and has three more victories than it posted last year.
Mairyn Peterson had 21 kills while Lexi Danz added 20.
Abby Machinski had 15 kills and tied Carlee Bowen and Nola Hower with eight service aces.
Kate Tindall had 71 assists.
Carlee Bowen
Defensively, Bowen had 28 digs and Danz added 18. Peterson accumulated four blocks.
“Overall, we played some strong volleyball today,” said R-P head coach Justin Birr. “I am so proud of how our girls play when it comes down to the wire. Where other teams start to tense up, we continue to play aggressive and we continue to have fun.
“We dug ourselves into some holes today, and for the most part, we were able to come back and win. Reflecting on it, we will work on starting faster in each game. If we can start fast and push to 10 first, I think we will become an even harder team to beat.”
