On the bright side, the Reeths-Puffer volleyball team posted a straight-set victory over Muskegon on Thursday night and matched its victory total from last year, with lots of the schedule still ahead.
The set scores were 25-14, 25-12, 25-18. The Rockets improved to 12-10 overall and 1-1 in O-K Green conference play.
But R-P head coach Justin Birr was not happy with how his team performed, and made that pretty clear after the match.
“A conference win is a conference win,” Birr said. “However, we could have played a much cleaner game on our side of the net. We drew up a couple of unique lineups to allow our girls to have a little fun, but we looked a little uncomfortable throughout the entire night.

“I will own part of that as a coach for not running through these rotations in advance, but I also think our girls took some responsibility for themselves on not being on top of their game.
“For example, we had 17 service errors as a team. That number is double what might be normally acceptable in three sets, so we will definitely work on cleaning that and other parts of our game up before Saturday.”
Abby Machinski led R-P with eight kills, Kate Tindall had 24 assists and Peyton Radel served three aces.
Defensively, Tindall and Lexie Danz had nine and eight digs, respectively.
The Rockets will compete in the Whitehall Invitational on Saturday.
