Reeths-Puffer junior golfer Sophia McCollum is starting to gather quite a collection of medals, just from the current high school season.

McCollum won her third medal in three tries on Wednesday by shooting a 39 and tying for first place at the first O-K Green conference jamboree of the season at Railside Golf Club.

She tied for the top spot with Caledonia’s Codie Okrangley. She has finished in first place at two events this season and fifth at the other.

“Sophia is off to a great start to her season,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “She followed up her first place finish in the two-day Lober Classic by tying for the lowest round on another difficult course. Following up a good round with another good round is not always easy to do.”

Junior Ella Voorhies finished second for the Rockets and 11th in the individual standings with a score of 48. That was 12 shots better than her score on the same course last year.

Junior Olivia Ambler shot a 49 and finished in 12th place while senior Ava Gibbs rounded out R-P’s scoring with a 64 and finished 29th.

Keeley Cole and Jaylynn Acre shot a 69 and 78 for the Rockets, respectively.

As a team the Rockets finished in the middle of the pack, taking third out of five teams with a score of 200. Byron Center won the event with a 171.

“The O-K Green conference is tough,” Pallett said. “Byron Center has a really nice team. I feel that we have a lot of upside with this team. I like our attitudes. We will continue to work.”
