The Reeths-Puffer boys cross country team, with a lot of underclassmen in the lineup, did pretty well at the season-opening Eagle Invitational at Fruitport Calvary Christian this week.
The top Rocket was a senior, Dylan Sturr, who had a very good day, finishing 12th overall out of 70 runners with a time of 19:06. He finished 1:32 faster than he did in last year’s Eagle Invitational.
Two freshmen, running in their first varsity race, showed a great deal of potential.
Landon Learn finished in 24th place with a time of 20:09 while Gabriel Luna was 29th with a time of 20:53. They were the third and sixth freshmen, respectively, to cross the finish line in the race.

Sophomore Kyron Novak finished 41st with a time of 22:06.
Another freshman, Zayden Kingman, took 50th place with a time of 23:47.
Rounding out the R-P runners were sophomore Jon Visscher (51st, 23:49) and and freshman Kasyn Novak (55th, 25:02).
The Rockets finished last out of four in the team standings. Hudsonville took first place.
"With this young team racing their first high school 5K as a team, we were going into the race with the expectation to manage effort and pace, notice things done well, notice mistakes made, then learn and continue to improve,” said R-P Coach Darin Grant. “We did all of those things.”
The Rockets will compete in the Under the Lights Invitational at Grand Rapids South Christian on Friday night.
