The Reeths-Puffer girls tennis team wrapped up its season with a taste of success in its final dual matches, and in Division 1 regional competition.
The success started on Monday when R-P posted one final dual match victory, beating Grand Rapids Northview 6-2.
The Rockets dominated in both doubles and singles, winning three of four matches in each.
R-P singles winners were Hope Latsch (No. 2), Molly Matz (No. 3) and Mylie Neel (No. 4).
Doubles winners were Malania Eilers and Gabrielle Borgeson (No. 1), Lauren Matz and Elana Weiden (No. 2), and Makayla Smith and Jayla Brink (No.4).
All of the Rockets' winners took their matches in straight sets.
The Rockets also had a dual match against Grand Rapids Catholic on Monday and fell 6-2.
The winners for R-P were Olivia Smith (No. 1 singles) and Eilers and Borgeson (No. 1 doubles).
R-P finished the season with an 8-6-2 dual record.
"It was a great tune up for regionals," R-P Coach Ryan Hankinson said about the two dual matches. "I was surprised how easily we beat Northview, and was a little surprised how much better GRCC was on this particular day.
"It was brutally hot day compared to the rest of the spring, and most of the girls would have preferred not to have to play back-to-back."
Reeths-Puffer next competed in a Division 1 regional meet on Wednesday.
The Rockets performed very well, finishing in fourth place out of 13 teams with 10 points. They were only one point behind third-place Mona Shores.
Powerful Forest Hills Northern won the regional title.
Olivia Smith, Molly Matz and Neel all won one singles match and each finished 1-1 in the regional.
Olivia Smith battled hard to down Mona Shores' Skyler MacLachlan 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
Molly Matz also had a fight on her hands, downing Kenowa Hills' Sophia Marvin 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.
Neel cruised past Wyoming's Dayanara Alejo 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
The Rockets also captured victories in second, third and fourth doubles.
Lauren Matz and Weiden downed Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Ava Dietz and Kaitlyn Darow downed Northview 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, and Jayla Smith and Brink downed Lowell 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4.
All three doubles teams finished 1-1 on the day.
"Six of our eight flights won their first match, and all six represented themselves well against Forest Hills Northern, the number one seed in five of those flights," Hankinson said. "As a coach I am super excited to see how well next year's team will do after we overachieved in many areas during what was supposed to be a slight rebuilding year."
