The Reeths-Puffer softball team had an up-and-down Saturday, posting a 1-1 record during a series of games on its own field.
The Rockets started the day on a strong note with a 10-5 win over Oakridge. R-P took control with a five-run fifth inning.
Abbie Critchett homered for the Rockets, who finished with 14 hits. Kyleigh Bilek and Olivia Amber each had three of those hits while Bilek, Tessa Ross and Mady Snyder each knocked in two runs.
Snyder pitched the win, striking out four.
R-P's Kyleigh Bilek, who had four hits on Saturday.
Things didn't go as well for the Rockets in their second game, a 13-2 loss to Hudsonville, the No. 3 ranked Division 1 team in the state.
Hudsonville grabbed its decisive lead with four runs in the second inning and six in the third.
Bilek, Critchett, Brook Buchan, Tessa Ross and Madi Reichert had hits for the Rockets. Riechert also drive in a run.
"We played well and executed against Oakridge, especially in that big fifth inning," said R-P Coach Sarah Bayle. "It was a solid team win. Against Hudsonville, though, it just wasn’t our sharpest performance. That’s a talented team, and you can’t afford mistakes like we made today. It was a tough day for us, but we’ll learn from it, clean it up, and be ready to bounce back Tuesday."
The Rockets will host Jenison, another very strong team, in an O-K Green conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
