The Reeths-Puffer baseball team had its chances in a doubleheader against Mona Shores on Tuesday, but ultimately came home with a pair of close losses.

The Rockets held leads in both games, but the Sailors came back to steal the wins, 4-3 in Game 1 and 6-5 in Game 2.

In Game 1, the Rockets built a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, then the Sailors scored twice in the bottom of the inning and held on to win.

Lukas Johnson and Holden Earnest both had two hits in the opener for the Rockets while Cade Paugh, Brenden Guikema and Quinn Alderink each had one. Earnest, Paugh and Ethan Frang each had an RBI.

Drew Brooks pitched two innings for the Rockets and gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Brayden Mitchelson tossed four innings, giving up two runs and striking out five.

Game 2 was a similar story, with the Rockets taking a lead in the fourth inning, but ultimately losing in the bottom of the seventh when a walk forced in the winning run.

Colton Bessinger pitched for R-P, allowing six runs (four earned) on 11 hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out three.

R-P had 10 hits as a team, led by Mitchelson and Conner McManus with two apiece. Paugh, Earnest, Guikema, Johnson and Quinn Alderink each had one hit. McManus, Frang, Alderink and Jayden Wiseman each drove in a run.

Reeths-Puffer is now 3-4 on the season, including 1-4 in O-K Green conference action. The Rockets and Sailors will finish off a three-game series on Wednesday at R-P.
