The Reeths-Puffer boys golf team keeps getting better as the season progresses.
After finishing in fifth place at the first two O-K Green conference jamborees of the season, the Rockets took fourth place on Monday in the third jamboree at Saskatoon Golf Course.
The finals standings were very tight, with the Rockets shooting a team score of 158, only one stroke behind third-place Jenison and five behind second-place Caledonia.
Mona Shores took first place for the third straight time with a team score of 146.
Three Rockets finished in the top 10 individually - Kristian Brown, Ayden Hartzell and Aiden Waggoner. They all tied for eight place with a nine-hole score of 39.
R-P's Ayden Hartzell
Hartzell had his best round of the season, highlighted by a birdie on the fifth hole and an eagle on the seventh. Waggoner had a birdie on the third hole.
Kye Grant also had his best round of the season, shooting a 41. Kaeden Benner shot a 43 and Jamie Neel shot a 50.
“The team made some strides in the right direction today," said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. "We had our best overall nine-hole score as a team. The guys are not satisfied, which is a good thing. We just need to continue to have four guys play well on the same night.
“It was great to see Ayden Hartzell have a good day. He has been fighting his swing a little bit. Hopefully this will springboard him to a strong finish this season, just like he did last year.
“Kye Grant played very well today. He is a first year player who has worked extremely hard. He has played well in stretches, but today he was able to put nine holes together. That was nice to see.”
The Rockets will compete in the O-K Green Midseason Tournament on Wednesday at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
