With quite a few starters missing from the lineup, the Reeths-Puffer wrestling team had an up-and-down day at a team dual tournament on Saturday at Alma High School.
But it was still a very big day for the program, because senior standout Ian Cook became the all-time victory leader in Reeths-Puffer wrestling history.
Cook posted a perfect 5-0 record on the day, bringing his four-year varsity win total to 181. The previous record of 177 wins was held by Hunter McCall.
R-P's Ian Cook, who became the Rockets' all-time victory leader on Saturday.
Cook, who finished third in the state in his weight class last season, sixth as a sophomore and third as a freshman, improved his record to 29-0 this season.
He's expected to be a strong contender to place high at the state finals again this season.
"Ian has the work ethic and motivation that you want all of your athletes to have," said R-P head coach Brad Cowles. "His hard work in the wrestling room is contagious and always motivates others to work hard. Ian has put the work in, year in and year out, and really earned the title of being the R-P win leader."
Beyond Cook's record-setting day, the Rockets posted a 3-2 mark against five opponents.

R-P beat East Lansing 57-20, Alma 66-16 and Vassar 77-6, but lost to Hastings 48-29 and Mt. Morris 49-30.
The Rockets are now 15-5 in team dual meets this season.
"The boys entered this tournament with multiple starters out," Coach Cowles said. "We knew we had our hands full with our first dual against Hastings, since they are ranked No. 9 in the state in Division 1. The team wrestled well, but the missing starters played a big part in the result.
R-P's Lyric Stewart, who was 5-0 on Saturday.
"After losing to Mt. Morris the boys finished well with wins over East Lansing, Alma and Vassar. We are hoping to be at full strength before our conference dual against Muskegon on Wednesday and the GMAA tournament on Saturday."
Cook (144 pounds) and Lyric Stewart (165) had the best days for R-P, posting perfect 5-0 records.
Hunter Eek (150) Max Knowlton (106) and Travis Henderson (113) were 4-1 while Cory Judd (126) and Troy Swingley (285) were 3-1 and Sage Secrest (215) was 2-0.
